The Loma Linda SDA Indonesian Children’s Choir

The Loma Linda SDA Indonesian Children’s Choir began, back in 2001, as the Loma Linda Kids Singers under the supervision of the Children’s Ministry Department of the Loma Linda Indonesian SDA Church in Redlands, CA. Since its inception, Gamaliel Simorangkir has been the music director and choral conductor.

Gamaliel Simorangkir, BM-Music Education,’00, is an Adventist University of the

alumnus. In 1996, while still studying at AUP, he founded The AUP Indonesian Students Chorale. At present, in addition to conducting The Loma Linda SDA Indonesian Children’s Choir he concurrently serves as Music Director for the Upland Community SDA Church in CA. Happily married to Ruth Simorangkir, they are blessed with 3 wonderful children, ages 7, 4, and 2, respectively: Gabriella, Jonathan, and Joel.

The Academy of Visual and Performing Arts Youth Chorus of La Sierra University

The Academy of Visual and Performing Arts Youth Chorus of La Sierra University is a free, community ensemble dedicated to introducing young people to the beauty and joy of choral music. This program provides quality music education to children from diverse backgrounds, igniting a love of singing and inspiring personal and musical excellence through the collaborative art of choral music. We are a family of young voices committed to uplifting the community around us through songs.
Joel Punay is an award winning choral conductor. He con-currently serves as music director-conductor of the AVPA Youth Chorus, Covina International SDA Church Adult Choir, Advent Vocal Ensemble, and the Riverside Adventist Young Singers. Among his achievements are first prizes in competitions such as the World Choir Championships, Asian Choir Games, and the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA-Philippines. In 2010, he was an Ani ng Dangal Awardee for Music given by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCAA). The NCCA was formerly known as the Presidential Commission on Culture and Arts which was established through Executive Order No. 118 by then President Corazon C. Aquino. Five years later, the same government agency became the NCCA through the enactment of Republic Act 7356. Meantime, Joel is presently enrolled at Cal State LA and hopes to finish his Masters of Music in Choral Conducting.

Loma Linda Filipino SDA Church (LLFC) Children's Choir serves under the direction of LLFC’s Children's Ministry Department. It is composed of children ages 3-12 with Jethrone Role as conductor since 2014. Interestingly enough, members of the band that accompanies the choir are mostly the singers’ parents. Their aim is to use their voices to share God's love as they continue to grow in their own Christian experience. In the meantime, the choir has extended its ministry to other churches and health care facilities.

Jethrone Role was born and raised on the campus of the Adventist University of the

Philippines

(formerly Philippine Union College) in Putting Kahoy, Silang, Cavite. Evidently, breathing the "PUC/AUP music" atmosphere at an early age contributed to developing and enhancing his inherent musicality. At age 7, he joined the Symphonic Band. Soon after this, he became a pioneering member of Soli Deo Gloria (SDG), a wind ensemble started by Ramon Lijauco, Sr. During his tenure with SDG, the ensemble produced 2 CD recordings and toured around the

Indonesia

. As if music activities in and out of theclassroom, in addition to his academic pursuits, werenot enough to occupy his curiosity and boundlessenergy, Jet was also privileged to serve as classpresident, student government president, and studentassociation assemblyman. Presently, between his fulltime job as Manager – Supplemental Staffing Network LOMA LINDA UNIVERSITY HEALTH | Shared Services, Jet Role, RN, MSN, divides his time serving as Elder, Family Life Director, and Children's Choir Director at the Loma Linda Filipino Church. Happily married to Jewel, they have been blessed with two daughters, Julienne and Jayleen.

Resonating Generations

Resonating Generations (also known as R.G.) consists mostly of high school and middle school students. Four who are still in the elementary grades and four college students complete the group. R.G. formally started as 10 musicians playing instrumental offertory at the Loma Linda Tagalog Church in 2012. By 2015, it morphed into a mixed ensemble of 15 singers who called themselves Tagalog Youth Singers or T.Y.S. In October 2015, R.G. was invited to sing during the FAMANA [Filipino-American Ministers Association of North America] convention at the Loma Linda Filipino Church. Their participation proved providential for it resulted in several musically-inclined youth from Loma Linda Filipino SDA Church, Loma Linda University Church, and Moreno Hills SDA Church either requesting or being invited to join. This necessitated a name change: from Tagalog Youth Singers to Resonating Generations. What didn’t change, however, was their original purpose: to serve God through music, to sing and pray in homes as well as provide special music in churches.

Arvin John Macalintal was born on April, 6, 1995 in the

Philippines

. He attends Crafton Hills College of Yucaipa in preparation for a Nursing degree. A.J.'s previous musical experience includes: 1) Citrus Valley High School's first chair violinist and concert master; 2) Citrus Valley High School's auditioned chamber singer; 3) Macalintal Family Singing Ministry (2008-present); and 4) Redlands Community Orchestra. He was awarded "Most Valuable Musician" and "Director's Award" for both the high school orchestra and choir programs. Outside the formal classroom, he took vocal lessons from Dr. Noemi Tañada. AJ occasionally arranges instrumental and choral pieces when requested. In July this year, he will take a temporary leave from choral conducting the RG so he can return to

in time for the start of the next school year in August. He plans to continue what he aimed to accomplish immediately following his high school graduation. He wants to finish his Bachelor's Degree in Nursing at the Adventist University of the

Marigold Jeanne Salagan-dela Cruz is an alumna of the Adventist University of the

Philippines

, Bachelor of Arts ‘05. She was a member of choral groups from age 3 to 16 under the tutelage of Erlinda M. Corral, Mercilyn U. Andalis and Shirley P. Botabara at the Pasay Adventist Church, Pasay City Adventist Elementary School and Academy, respectively. During college, however, her focus shifted to student governance and hosting instead. Career-wise, this seems to have served her well. She continues to accept speaking engagements for public events. Prior to her recent move to the

U.S.

from the

Philippines

, she worked for a number of national and international companies as a Corporate Training Consultant for professional development and business solutions. She is married to James, the son of Dr. Ephraim dela Cruz. Marigold and James are expecting their first baby girl in July.
