We believe the purity of the motives and sincere desire of the Adventist University of the
Philippines Board of Trustees (AUP BOT) to show appreciation to those who
contribute
generously of their means, large or small, to the College of Medicine project.
However, if the AUP Board of Trustees wish to rename the College
of Medicine building,
why make it appear as if it were largely if not entirely
an AUP alumni funded project though
it is absolutely not?

AUP COM Update
1. Though some may agree with naming an entire building as Alumni Hall, in the eyes
of more people this action of the board may not conform to sound ethical practice.
In our opinion, it violates the rights of many non-AUP alumni in particular, as well as
numerous friends and supporters of the AUP College of Medicine, whether they are
AUP alumni or not, who were made to believe, based on clear and specific appeals from
the Advancement Office of the University and the Office of the President of the University,
that they were contributing to the realization of our collective College of Medicine dream.

2. Besides, will permitting the AUP administration to let other programs and departments
of the university to develop and convert the rooms and offices of a still-to-be-completed
structure, presumably only temporarily for their respective occupancy, truly advance our
case with the Technical Committee on Medical Education (TCME)? Will this action on the
part of the University administration really enhance the medicine program's chance of
being approved and recognized by the TCME thus hastening the opening of
medicine classes?

3. Evidently, the preceding observation as well as more recent revelations coming
from the Advancement Office of the University and the Office of the President of the
University amply demonstrate that more resources than were needed to get the
medicine program approved have been spent on the construction of a structure of
which only a small portion will actually be used by the College of Medicine.

Temporary COM or Future Administration Building?
Per Plan C with a total 4733 sq.m. floor area, the COM will use 438 sq.m. which is about 9.25% of the multipurpose, general use Alumni Hall. Rounding our figure to 10% of the eighty (80) million pesos earmarked by the administration for the entire structure, the COM portion will cost approximately eight hundred thousand (800k) pesos. By another estimate, ten percent of US$1.9 mil is about US$190k.
